Hi this is my first post. I am normally a person who does not follow directions, but I really do not want to screw up my daughters cake. Anyhow where do you get your dowels for support. I will take any tips and tricks for getting the support and dowels to be correct.

My cake plan will hopefully be simple. It will be a two tiered ( two medium cakes held together with buttercream frosting and then another two cakes together that are smaller on top) (esentially baking four cakes and joinging them together in matching size pairs). I have done the two cakes together before, just never four total.

Did not mean to do an overkill of details but wanted to make sure that you knew what I meant. Again I will take all the help I can, I have been reading other posts, articles etc. and I have allowed a few weeks to practice otherwise her first birthday cake will be made plain by her great grandma, so still just as special. Thanks again and I hope I can offer support too as I get involved in the cake world!

you can get dowells anywhere....wal mart in the cake decorating section...lowes in the isle where they have the drapery stuff...really anywhere..and you won't need the great big ones...just make sure you cut them all even with the top of the icing on the bottom cake (hope I am saying this right)

ANd welcome to CC these women and Man LOL are awesome! icon_smile.gif

I always had a hard time cutting my dowels until a bought a pair of snips like you use to cut small limbs in your garden. They work like a charm. I picked them up at the garden shop at Walmart, but you can pick them up anywhere. They make a very easy job of cutting and getting an accurate cut.
