I finally tried the cake balls today. I made them with red velvet cake. They turned out great, except for the sweet chocolate. My question is, what else can I use besides the chocolate melts and still have that shell?

This may be cheating but what about that ice cream shell stuff. my husband uses that on strawberries and it turns out great.

I used semi-sweet chocolate chips. I melted them down in the microwave and dipped the cake balls in them. The kids like them a lot, I would have preferred a milk or dark chocolate instead of semi-sweet. I was thinking of getting a chunk of chocolate from "Trader Joe's" melting that down and trying it.
