im making a wedding cake next week, 4 tiers as follows:

12" square
10" round
8" square
6" round

im making gumpaste roses for the 12, 10 and 8 with the bride and groom statue going on the 6. the cake will be on a stand with each of the tiers one above the other.

i wanted to get a rough idea of how many roses i will need to make as i want to begin making them now. cannot decide whether the roses should be flat against the cakes or whether i should have some higher than others to make it appear more rounded? which do you think would look better? i have made a mini version of the cakes in my pics if you want to get an idea of what it looks like.

i would really appreciate any help you can give as this is my first wedding cake and i want to get as much done in advance as i can. ive also got 2 other cakes to make this week and i want to get as prepared as possible.

thanks in advance!

i like making my roses into a spray that way the bride and groom get to keep the flowers if they want but i tend to use more flowers than needed..
i make all my flowers atleast 1 month in advance so that they dry completely. Then you shouldnt have any trouble with the flowers wilting if there is any wet weather...make more than you think you will need as there is always breakages...and the odd kid that likes to eat them...(try flavouring the gumpaste with a little peppermint oil it tastes yummy Just a little hint) so if i was you i would start now and dont stop until you have atleast 30-50 roses but it also depends on the size of the rose that you are using...The bigger cakes can handle bigger size roses...have fun and good luck...

thanks very much for your advise.

i love the idea of adding the peppermint! i'll have to avoid the temptation of eating them myself lol.

i guess i know what i'll be doing every spare minute now then! i'll try to remember the fun bit but i tend to forget when i'm making flowers and try to tear my own hair out!

once again thanks
