I have to make 4 dozen sugar cookies that someone requested. I used a sugar recipe that doesn't call for vanilla flavoring or any flavoring! I realized this after I made the dough. icon_surprised.gif

1 c butter softened
3/4 c sugar
1 egg
2 c all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

And 9 times out of 10 sugar cookie recipes calls for vanilla flavoring. Anyhow as I'm sitting here waiting for my dough to chill I started to think of how they are going to come out!!!! Has anyone made them w/o flavoring???? I hope I get an anwser before the 2 hour chilling time is up....Thanks icon_cry.gif [/url]

don't panic....=) are you going to be covering them with any kind of frosting? If so then LOAD that frosting up with lots of flavoring to make up for the lack of flavor in your cookies......they won't know the difference. I always use lots of vanilla/almond/ and orange together in mine. LOVE it.

after you roll the dough out, brush the tops with vanilla, sprinkle with sugar (if they wont be decorated in icng) , then bake.

It looks like your flavoring is the cinnamon. The cookies I make have vanilla, yes, but I don't think you can taste it all that much. I think the cinnamon in there should taste pretty good!

I think you will be fine with the cinnamon flavor.

Bake a small peice of the dough to see if you are happy with how they taste and adjust your icing flavors.

But I agree with previous post the cinnamon is the flavoring.

I agree also that the cinnamon sounds like the flavoring, but like freddyfl and melysa said you could load the icing with flavoring or brush it with vanilla flavoring.

I will not be icing my cookies and she doesn't want a cutout. She requested sugar drop cookies. I am going to brush them with vanilla and sprinkle some sugar. Thanks everyone!!! I will try the Melysa method.
Cross your fingers. Thank you!!!!!!!

You'll be surprised how much the butter and cinnamon flavors the dough... think about cinnamon toast! No vanilla there.

My bet is they'll be great! thumbs_up.gif
