I can't find the cellophane sheets the Whimsical Bakehouse talks about to pipe their melted chocolate shapes and characters. Stays to a nice stiff point even after microwaving again? Any leads? Thanks! <<<Cheryl

I've used cellophane/acetate sheets from the local art supply store (Michael's) for this exact purpose with great results.

Are we talking about the ones that are in triangles or something else and are they by wilton?

I am looking for somthing that will hold up to royal icing better than the wilton ones. ANY IDEAS?

I use the acetate for a lot of stuff - it's kind of expensive, but holds up better than wilton's disposable bags. Parchment triangles work ok for me for piping gel - but nothing stiffer than that. I actually found this by "necessity" one night when I couldn't find my squeeze bottle to do some chocolate drizzle - I was out of EVERYTHING - except, the acetate and cellophane rolls I use to spread chocolate and roll fondant on. I cut a piece, made a triangle and filled it with melted chocolate - worked great! The acetate does hold up to warm items A LOT better than the cellophane - beats a wilton "baggie" anyday icon_smile.gif

Kpcrash,

Thank you, yes, this is it! Can you describe how it comes more so I can find it? Is it a roll and you cut it or does it come in sheets? Do you need to decide on a certain thickness or does it just come one way? What section? Thanks! <<<<<<<Cheryl

You can get it in rolls or sheets - look in the painting section for "painting protector sheets". If they don't have it - it's available online at http://www.reuels.com/reuels/Acetate_Mylar_Masking_Film.html

I use the sheets for rolling and cutting and rolls for making bags. Why? because for me, the .003 thickness works better sometimes for squeezing and the .005 holds up better to heat and my "surgical precision" (sarcasm) with an exacto knife. Like I said - it's not the cheapest stuff on the planet, but neither is SilPat - and for rolling fondant/gumpaste/chocolate, you can cover far more space for less money.

Kpcrash,

I went to Michaels and couldn't find this in the painting section. The workers didn't know what I was talking about. You said, "painting protector sheets"... I found some sheet protectors that a piece of paper can fit into, 10 (that's 20 pieces of plastic) for $13.98?? Does this sound right? I don't have time to order from the site you gave, but thank you for that 'cause I'll order is soon. <<<<<Cheryl

Cheryl, I'm sorry to hear that - must be a regional thing. The sheet protectors are not the same thing. Not sure where you are, but if there are any other art supply stores - or - check Hallmark (will pay a lot) for heavy cellophane gift rolls.

Thanks Kpcrash, or should I call you Sugar Geek? Michaels had cellophane rolls, but they were too thin. Thanks for the website...

I found plastic for rolling out fondant, etc., at WalMart -- in the fabric department. HTH

Thanks luvchocolate,

I have been too busy to look at the website, but Walmart is nearby. Where were the plastic sheets located, and what did they look like (in a roll, flat?). Did it have a weight or thickness listed on it? I ask so I can find it. I don't think all stores carry the same thing... but I hope my Walmart does!

Since this original post, I ended up using plastic sheet protectors. I xeroxed my image, then slipped it into the plastic sheet protector, then piped the candy melts onto the plastic. Worked great!

I think it's actually called "vinyl." It's on a rack of large, heavy rolls -- like vinyl table covering. It comes in two or three weights. I bought medium weight for rolling fondant. Hope your store carries it!
