Maybe everyone knew this but I just discovered that if you lay your parchment in your pan and crease along all the edges and then take a sharp tipped knife you can go around the bottom edge and TADA a perfectly fitted parchment for the bottom. It works really well on squares and sheets but I have done quite well with ovals and rounds also. Saves time from having to draw the size and get out the scissors. Like I said, maybe that was a given, but for anyone who is new, hopefully it saves you some time!

i've been doing the same thing except i don't bother with the knife. i just make the creases with my fingers and cut inside the crease. it's not a perfect fit, but it works for me.

I only line my pan if I am doing petite fours. I have never lined a cake pan before-Seen it done but don't really need to!

I don't even take the parchment out of the pan, I just hold the parchment in the pan while I run the knife around the where the sides and bottom meet, if that makes sense?
