I have been asked to make the cake for our motorcycle club's annual barbeque Sept 9th. I am hoping to do a 3D motorcycle fuel tank. I would like to make it in WASC with(MMF) fondant. Our club colours are black/orange white(harley to believe that ...LOL). They would like it to have their logo and I am sure the date.
It's a family barbeque and usually the lady that asked me gets a sheet cake that "serves 45" with the logo and date on it in 1/2 choc.1/2 white cake. She said hard to judge on the servings as to people having other plans that day or especially the weather plays a big part. As last year had 80.
So I am thinking maybe more servings would be great as who doesn't like seconds!!! I would like to stay away from using too much black fondant,if possible. The tank shape is kind of a half sideways teardrop shape (peanut tank to be correct). I thought of orange tank with the logo on side of it. 3or4- 9x13's stacked with 1/2 ball pan on each front corner for shape???? Not sure.

I would appreciate any help with construction and other ideas,as I am still new to this especially covering a whole cake of that size with fondant and stacking. This will be my first cake for more than a small gathering and would really like it to be a showstopper!!!!

Thank you in advance for your help, much appreciated.
I do hope this sounds correct,so feel free to ask me questions!
Nancy

btw
- here is the logo and the lady has said she could get me some edible images of it if I need them!

if it is a tank like JanH linked to, it might work like this.

just all flat layers, stacked, doweled, carved.

Yes JanH,that's it!!!!
Greatly appreciate Doug, and the picture is awesome!

Am I right in using 9x13's and small rounds as I got to the top for this? Also I should board every 4 inch's?
Thanks for the help and I will be sure to post a pic!

Here's how MrsMissey assembled her turkey cake:
