In preparation for our daughter's Sweet 16 birthday cake, I have been working the past week on making things ahead of time. I saved some money by buying the powdered sugar in bulk. 25 lbs of it!
Now, to the professional pastry chef, that's no big deal, but to the hobbyist, like me, that's a lot of sugar!
So, 5 double batches of madagascar bourbon vanilla buttercream and 7 batches of Toba Garrett's delicious fondant later, the bag is gone!
My KA and I are going to be in for a long rest next week! We've earned it.
But not until we've made 7 batches of mousse...

I hear you! I haven't seen any 25 lb bags of p.s. but I know I've used that much in the last couple of months since I started taking this hobby a little more seriously. It goes fast!!!

We're always saying that if someone came in and did an air quality test, they'd find powdered sugar in the air! We've used A LOT of that stuff in the past few months. I usually buy a couple of bags every time I'm shopping because you can just never have enough! Sounds like a huge cake you're making!

powdered sugar tends to go faster. but most icing recipes call for 4 cups which is about a pound. so if you make 5 batches thats about 5 pounds. icon_smile.gif

your cakes look nice and i am sure they taste good with all that powdered sugar too. icon_smile.gif

Alana, Smart and Final had the large bags, and I figured it was about half-price, so I went for it! I never figured I'd actually use it all!
OMG, Toni, isn't that the truth! I probably lost at least a pound to the counter, floors, and my apron! There's probably a cup's worth still floating in the air! LOL It's the new "powdered sugar" scent of air freshener, yeah, that's it....
The cake is a modified version of a Martha Cake, the chocolate one with the swirled cocoa transfer on three of the tiers. Only hers will have a GP rose topper with a tiara, pink fondant instead of white and pink chocolate behind the cocoa. I figured that since I was doing it, it might as well be HUGE!
Thank you, kjgjam22 you have some really nice cakes, as well! I really liked that sample platter....yum on the bite-sized goodies! That is definitely some patience!
