Has anyone made a "Tiffany Box" cake with the white bow? My daughter told me she saw one at a Bridal Shower. It was three boxes stacked, with the ribbon around them. She said it looked so real. If so, would you share a picture and instructions? If instructions are shared, please make them detailed. I've never made a "fancy" cake, and need all the help I can get. I'm thinking MMF for the frosting and ribbon, but I've no clue how to make the bow (did see a good looking bow on a Tiffany birthday cake posted). Thanks so much.

I did one (in my gallery). I used a real ribbon to make it look more authentic. I also used MMF.
good luck and can't wait to see it!

I'm working on a tutorial for "how to make a gift box cake".. The best way I can explain is this: I made 2 9x9 square cakes..( I have a 9x9 pan, you can cut this from anysize sheet pan) I cut about 1/2 inch off of one 9x9 cake for the lid.. Soo now I still have 2 9x9 cakes to stack on top of each other.. (they will be in thickness, but it will still work!
So you will stack and add buttercream (or what ever your using) in between your layers.. Once you have your layers stacked, give them crumb coat.. If your going to use fondant, you dont have to do more than a crumb coat..Once you've done the crumb coat you can place your fondant on the cake.. If your going to use all buttercream, then crumb coat and add your final layer of icing and use the VIVA paper towel method so give it a smooth look..
Now for the "lid", I cut a cake board to fit my cake perfect.. You will be insterting 2 wooden dowels into the lid.. So make sure that you make holes in your cake board before adding the cake on top of it.. You will add the wooden dowels about an inch apart to the back of the lid.. this part will be touching down on the top of the cake. I then iced it with buttercream, I also iced cake board (the edges) so that you dont see any board at all. (of course except for the bottom).. Now again if your using fondant once you crumb coat add your fondant onto your cake and cut off excess.. If not do the same thing as above, crumb coat, final coat of buttercream and smooth with VIVA paper towel.. Now you will need 3 wooden dowels..
grab 2 of them (these will be inserted into the lid all the way down into the cake) and place them next to your cake so that you can mark where you need to cut.. Make it so that when you place your wooden dowels into your cake that they will not be seen at the top..

Now get the 3rd wooden dowel.. Here is where you will play with it a little.. (because not every cake will be exact size in height I cannot give exact measurements)..
Gently place the back of the lid onto your cake.. holding the front of the lid up with your hand.. Here you will see how high you want your lid to be.. Have someone help you on this part, as your holding the lid where you want it to be, have someone grab the 3rd wooden dowel and place it next to your cake.. and measure it to be long enough to hold the lid up and cut to fit..

Now take your lid off and place your 3rd wooden dowel into your cake about 3 to 4 inches away from the front.. The closer the front you place your wooden dowel the higher your lid will be.. You can play with it until you get it where you want it.. Now once you have all your wooden dowels cut, insert the 3rd one first and now your ready for the next step:

Insert the first two dowels into the "lid" cake.. Not all the way, just enough to get it through lid and cake board.. Now gently place your lid onto your cake.. Gently tap ( I use a real small hammer) the first 2 dowels all the way through the cake.. (if you used fondant on the lid, there will be holes where you inserted your dowels.. Just dip your finger in cornstarch and add little piece of fondant to cover your holds and dab until you dont notice it anymore).. If your using buttercream, just dab it with buttercream and let it crust then dab it with your papertowel..

Your cake should be ready to decorate! I've tried my best to explain without photos.. BUT if anyone has an easier way in making this cake.. PLEASE share your wisdom!!!!
In the articles there is a tutorial on how to make a fondant bow..

I did not read the whole thing but I'm told if you put clear contact paper on your ribbon the grease etc. will not stain your ribbon.

My husband worked at Tiffany and did you know they actually send them to classes to learn to tie the Famous Tiffany bow?

I wonder if they give classes in how to do it in fondant? hahaha!

briansbaker, I can't wait for the tutorial with photos! I really can't follow what you are saying but it sounds like you have it very well thought out. I'm sure the photos will be very helpful as I am a visual person and kind of lost without them. Thanks for your efforts. I hope to see the tutorial soon!
