Hi! My mom and are trying to figure out how to get chocolate curls or sprinkles to stick on the sides of cakes. I assume you just take a handful and shmush them gently into the frosting. She thinks there must be another trick, so here I am posting!

She's wanting to make a Black Forest Cake for Labor Day and wants chocolate shavings on the side.

you take the cake in one hand, lift it over a pan to catch the fall out. Take the other hand full of sprinkles and start at the bottom of the cake and slide you heavily sprinkled hand up, letting the sprinkles hit the cake. Now with curls, if you do this, you will smash the curls. Those need to be placed on with a toothpick, so the warmth of you hands don't melt or damage the curl.

Thanks so much for your quick reply. I figured it would be messy. Good tip about the warmth of your hands melting the chocolate. I don't know if she wants to go thru the trouble of putting on each curl by hand, but at we know if we need to.

Thanks a bunch,

It is also easier to stick something to fresh icing, instead of icing that has crusted. icon_smile.gif
