I have a cake due next Saturday, and I'm not quite sure how to construct it. I'm afraid that my 3D Bear (wilton pan) will fall during delivery. So, I guess my question is: How should I support it on top of a sheet cake? It's the bigger Wilton teddy bear (it's going to be a frog for a baby shower). Do I need dowels under it or what?! icon_redface.gificon_redface.gif
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!! icon_biggrin.gif

Thanx!!

I would put the frog on it's own cardboard under it, place it on the sheet cake and put a sharpened dowel in it for support. It should be fine on a board by itself once you camouflage it into the sheet cake, but just to be sure.

I've done the bear on a sheet cake several times. I always put it on it's own cardboard but have never but a dowel down thru it & have never had any problems. I have put a hidden dowel in the sheet cake under the bear for extra support.

I have done this as well, and I would suggest supporting it with dowels underneath, as well as "hammering" one from the middle top of your frog (so finish decoration after), and through the supporting cardboard, all the way to the bottom cardboard (under the sheet cake). That isn't completely necessary, but will give a little extra support for the drive. Besides that, add a little extra icing around the bottom if you can & still make it look right - and hopefully you can refrigerate it for about 24 hours so that can all get very firm before traveling with. Good luck!

Also - can you e-mail me a final picture to [email protected]? I have a baby shower cake due on 11/12, which is supposed to have 2 frogs on it, so I'd LOVE to see what you do!

I'd feel safer having the bear on a small board and supported underneath with dowels through the sheet cake.
