I am making some gumpaste leaves for some gumpaste roses. The leaves look pitiful.

Here's what I did:
1. rolled out the gumpaste
2. cut shape with a leaf cutter
3. rolled it thinner
4. pressed it onto a leaf impression thing
5. attached it to a wire/stem

My edges look awful! Rather than re-rolling the leaf after it's cut, should I roll it as thin as I need it and then cut it?

I roll the paste thin before cutting, then use the leaf impression. Then use a ball tool, half on the paste, half out, thin the edges a little bit more with 1 continuous movement to create movement on the edges of the leaves.

Wire it before you vein it...one way to do leaves is to roll some paste into a ball, insert wire little way in then roll out thin, use cutter then vein ( just helps stop wire sticking through paste when inserting ( hope this makes sense !! )

Nick Lodge teaches you to dry your leaves on slightly crumpled tin foil to give it movement.

Well, I got them done. I was making them for my aunt & uncle's 25th wedding anniversary. I definitely need more practice to make them look more realistic icon_lol.gif . One day maybe I'll get the hang of it.
