I buy the florist wire that's wrapped in white. I also learned the lower gauge number is for heavier accent pieces. I haven't stuck wires in my cakes without putting them in a flower nail packed with royal icing or gumpaste. Some cc'ers insert wires in straws then place in cake. Hope this helps you.
