I am doing a cake of a red camero for a friend. I plan to use a FBCT, but what do I do for the windshield. I thought of piping gel, but I am not sure I can freeze that and have it pull off ok with the rest of the transfer. Also need to do something for the front lights. Any thoughts?
Is this going to be a 3D cake? I did a truck cake a while back and I colored my fondant for my cake gray and then painted it with silver luster dust.
I did the same for my head/blinker lights. Of course my blinker lights I colored my fondant a golden yellow and then painted those with gold dust.
I guess if you are covering your cake with fondant this will work out fine but BC, I'm not so sure.

What if you do a poured sugar tinted barely blue to look like glass. Cut a windshield shape and mold it over something curved, and then after it is dry, take an exacto knife and score the edges and break it clean. Same with the headlights, only smaller and round.
Just a thought.....I saw a water/wedding cake that had this same technic here in the CC galleries. Look under "Water"...can't remember which page just now.
If you think about it you could probably do it just black with a couple of highlights of white to give the appearance of the shine
other than that i used a clear plastic spoon cut off the shank warmed it up and shaped it to make it the shape i needed it to be for the cockpit of the f-16 that i did and with that i put black gumpaste under that. Maybe if your windshield is not to big you could find the clear plastic plates and try and work with that.
Or even plastic wrap to give it the shine. or clear plastic sheets that they use in cake decorating or for chocolate.
I made a 3D convertable for my niece's friend and used gumpaste tinted light aqua, let it dry on a curved surface and trimmed it in grey GP, then I painted streaks of silver luster dust on the glass section. . .
Wish I had thought of the melted sugar tho, that would look great.
