I am planning on making a cake for my dad's 60th birthday. I want to make a basket cake and fill it with a chocolate wine bottle, and either fondant or decorated cookies of grapes, cheese and crackers. I need an idea for the handle of the basket. Would fondant work? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. This is my first post but I have been reading the forum for months and wanted to thank everyone for all of their ideas and help.

Welcome to CC!

I did a basket of strawberries a few months back (in my photos). Beez actually did it first and I copied her. She suggested covering an ice cream bucket handle. I used royal icing but next time I do one, I will make sure that the icing is dry before trying to attach it. Good luck! I'm excited to see a picture when you get it done.

I made one out of royal icing. I piped the icing over a floral wire. Let it dry then flipped it over and piped on the other side. I made it weeks ahead of time, so it would have plenty of time to dry. You could also do the same thing with fondant. Just braid some fondant and shape it for the handle and let it dry. Good luck and be sure to post a picture.
