One of the three categories I am entering in our county fair is the Death By Chocolate competition. I am thinking about a 3 layer chocolate cake(not sure which recipe yet). One layer of filling will be mocha buttercream with mini chocolate chips mixed in and the other layer of filling will be chocolate ganache. I will cover the cake with either mocha or chocolate buttercream then pour chocolate ganache over the whole cake. To top it off, chocolate curls. Does this sound good enough to win? I really want to win!

I would suggest going for all ganache. That will kick up the chocolate factor for sure! However, I think your plan is great! What about making rolled chocolate butter cream and "striping" the cake, or use chocolate fondant for the same thing? Could you pour the ganache over that to give the cake texture? But, I do love that smooth, poured ganache look. Ganache...yum!

I would also do the chocolate fondant on the outside and give it more details as well as flavor. I think the chocolate fondant tastes like tootse rolles. It sounds like you have a WINNER!!
