I'm doing a pumpkin shaped cake (novelty pan) this weekend. I don't have the pan with me but I need to buy a box for it. Is there a general size that fit the character pans or a rule of thumb to go by?

I would say you need the pan or at least the dimensions of the pan to find a box. Especially for a pumpkin, which might be wider than a "normal" novelty pan. Sorry.
