Can anyone tell me how you make the gumpaste bows? I had one on my daughters christening cake (before I started decorating) and I loved it. I would really love to be able to do them myself.

Hi do you mean the loop bows or a regular tied bow. I've done both, there's a how to do loop bows here on CC, let me know if you need instructions on the other.

How to do the gumpaste loop bows is definitely on CC in the instructions, as for the ones I've posted, I like to make them by really thinly rolling out my paste and cutting out the loop sections first, I also mark the edges with a stitching wheel so it looks like fabric, and I fold these peices in half and pinch the ends together. They may need some adjusting to get the creases looking just right, so play with them until you're happy, then I cut the tail pieces and the centre, also marking the edges and cutting the tails on a 45 degree angle. I pinch the straight end of the tails, place one on the cake, then a loop, then the other loop, then the final tail on top of the second loop. Then take the centre piece, scrunch it a bit to get the folds and wrap this around the centre of the bow. You don't need it to go all the way around just so that is covers any ends and looks neat.

There you have it. At least that's how I do it, I'm sure there are other ways, and possibly better ways, but I find this method works well for me.

You can see this brazilian site how to make bows....

Even if you don't understand portuguese, I think the photos might help.

Good luck!

Bluestar, nice web site. It has lots of instructions. (Speaking Spanish or Portuguese helps, but not necessary.)
