How many of you have made a castle cake based on a price you set, just to change your price to a higher price for this cake on a second order of this cake? What has been the best price set for the amount of work this cake takes to make?
I am just curious, as I am making my first castle cake and cannot believe the amount of work. I am not using Wilton"s plastic set. I think that sucker is ugly!!
Thanks

I can't count the amount of times that I ended up under charging dramatically, finding out that I promised alot more than I charged for many different cakes!! Way too often. I now charge $5 a serving for an extensive castle with fondant and gumpaste.

After having made 3 castle cakes (all for friends/family) I now know that if a "real" customer ever ordered one I wouldn't charge less than $250, and the latest one I did would be at least $400. Talk about a project that takes all week!

I have only made two castle cakes, but I can say that after my first I increased the price almost 50%. I don't use the Wilton set either. I used regular cones and sugar cones. It is definitly a specialty cake and not something you can buy just anywhere. That said, I am terrible at charging higher prices, so for my fairytale castle I only charged $120 icon_redface.gif
