I want to start learning how to work with fondant. My daughters 21st B day is in october and I want to make her cake 3 tier for about 150 kids. I don't want to actually have to bake several cakes, how do you practice with fondant????????

If you feel the dummies are too expensive, buy styrofoam and play with it.

In a pinch last week I used a paper mache hat box.... but if you have until October to play then I would order some dummies. Check out http://www.dallas-foam.com/store/cakedummies.html They are probably cheaper than buying styrofoam from walmart or michael's anyway! I couldn't believe how expensive styrofoam (Walmart) was when I bought it for wedges for my Paris cake!! OUCH!

For my daughter's birthday cake I used a Styrofoam rectangle from WalMart as the bottom sheet cake (It was a small party for only family.) It was the size of a full sheet pan and I think it cost more than it would have to actually make the cake. I left it in the shrink wrap it came in and wrapped it a second time with plastic wrap to protect it better. All though it was a little pricey it can be reused. I looked at it as another tool to help justify the price.
