Help!!! Icing Is Seperating???
Decorating By Carolinagirls03 Updated 19 Oct 2006 , 2:54am by ChristaPaloma
My cake icing is almost like it is separating. My recipe is
2 pds. powdered sugar
10 oz. crisco
1/2 cup water
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
I let it mix for 15 minutes. A friend of mine has used this recipe for years and this never happens to hers. I don't know what is causing this. It is really bad when I put the coloring in it. The icing will be that color and white mixed?? Does anyone else have this problem or a solution??? Thanks
is your butter warm? sometimes icing gets a little "grainy" if the butter is too warm.
sounds like a lot of water. Maybe the crisco and water is not binding.
I use the same icing my grandmother used for all the years she did cakes: 2lb. powdered sugar, 1/2 cup water, 1 cup Crisco and vanilla or buttercream flavor. If you are using liquid food coloring that could be your problem. Also make sure it is whipped really well.
Hope you find something to fix it, I know it is frustrating!
Hi, thanks for the reply. I don't use butter in my icing though.

If you are sure all the ingredients are fresh, try using bottled water...
