I am making a police badge cake and I am wondering how to make it look real. I am debating about using fondant or a FBCT? I has to be gold...any suggestions on making fondant GOLD? I have never used luster dust but am always willing to try something new. I am sort of lost on this one...any guidance would be appreciated! Thanks!!

I know lots of deputies, and have always wanted to do a badge cake. I would cover it in fondant, then paint it with gold luster dust. I have only used luster dust once, but it was WONDERFUL. It really turned out gold! LOL!
Good luck.

To make this look as realistic as possible. I would make the details (lettering, etc) using fondant ropes that you let dry, put them on the cake where they belong, cover the whole thing with fondant and then cover with luster dust. This will take several coats but the outcome will be worth it.

If you mix the luster dust with a little vodka or clear vanilla (if you don't want to use the liquor) and then paint it on, it will look more real.
