Help! How To Shorten Gumpaste Bow Loops
Decorating By rustidog Updated 22 Oct 2006 , 6:11am by rustidog
I made all the gumpaste bow loops last night.
They were almost dried this morning.
I tried to form the shape of the bow on an upturned 8" cake tin just to visualise how it will look and found that some of the loops are way too long.
Is there anyway I can shorten them without breaking them.
I need the bow by Saturday evening.
Thanks for any inputs from CC experts out there.
I think it will depend on just how dry your gumpaste is. The good thing is that if your loops are not too thick, they will dry quickly anyway so you'll definitely have enough time to make another one. I know this probably doesn't help you out much. Why not cut off the end and just stick the open end into whatever "glue" you will be using to secure the pieces together. Just use the ones that are o.k. on the outer portion of the bow and I'm sure you won't be able to see the inner pieces.
I've broken the ends off when I have done loops and needed some to be smaller. Just tuck it in where it isn't as visable.
When I make mine I usually make three different lenghts to fit them where I need them.
Thanks TexaxSugar and Bush1. I think I will have to break them to shorter lengths then. ![]()
For the glue, can I dissolve some gumtex in water to make a paste glue. I do not have egg white powder or anything like that.
Or would a royal icing be strong enough to stick them closed?
Thanks again.
Have you thought about moistening the ends just a bit with some water, then cut them to the length you need. I had the same problem, and just cut the ends to a point with a pearing knife. It worked well and did not break any of them. Good luck!!
Thanks everyone for your help.
I managed to shorten the loops by breaking off the ends and then resealing them.
I could have made the loops thinner but overall, I am very happy with the result.
Please go to my album to see the finished cake (more pictures on my blog).
Thanks again.
