Hey guys, new to cake decorating and I made some of the Marshmallow Fondant (not using the fluff) I colored it pink for the bow on the top of the Wilton course 3 cake, I let it dry and the color faded quite a bit icon_sad.gif only with the pink though, the yellow, teal and purple were fine. Any thoughts on why this happened and how to prevent it from happening again? Also any thoughts on if royal blue will fade or past experiences with other issues with marshmallow fondant will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to CC!

I noticed that on the dummies I have made the pink fades more than anything. I have peach, greens, black, and ivory, but the only one that faded is the bright pink. It's a very pretty (but MUCH lighter) color than it used to be. These are not kept in the sun, but not exactly kept in the dark either. I have a Royal blue Marine that I made in November that hasn't faded one bit. He has been in my china cabinet though-protected from the sun.

Thanks for the help, that is very interesting, must have something to do with a reaction to the marshmallows or something. Now I know to use the box fondant when I want the pink to stay vibrant. thumbs_up.gif

Now this is interesting! I have been having the exact same problem with my electric pink color! And I keep my colors in a dark place! I use rolled fondant in all my cakes, and if any pink cake happens to stay overnight all the beautiful pink that I had at the beginning becomes a very pale pink, sometimes almost whitish! Very frustrating indeed!

I had this happen with both pink and purple on my cakes. Pink goes to white and purple goes to blue. I read on another thread (I believe it was Indydebi who said it) that it's because red coloring is unstable since they banned the use of Red Dye #2.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Which is highly possible! lol

Pink and purple tend to do this. Espeically in sun light, florescent lights or other really bright lights.
