Hi all!

I've been doing a lot of dummy cakes lately and wanted to do a basketweave. It would be on display for a while and I'm confused about how to do this. I'm sure I would do royal for the basketweave, but underneath it? Do I put it right on the dummy? Will it show through in places? Do I put fondant on it first? icon_redface.gif I would really appreciate any help from you experts!

Thanks in advance!

I usually use a little bc on the dummy (styrofoam) just to make sure it's smooth before adding any deco's

I would ice the cake lightly with your royal icing. It doesn't have to have a perfect finish on it, but you do want it there incase you do have some places where you can see through the basketweave.

I used BC on a dummy for a cake that I did for someone in a basketweave. I left it on the cake for like 3 months afterward (to show people) and it held up GREAT. I put a smooth "crumb coat" on the dummy before doing the basketweave

I use BC only on my dummies. I have a basketweave on display now. Light coating of BC in the same color to insure against the "see through" spots. The coating also helps the basketweave adhere to the cake. (i do this on real cakes, too).
