I made these cute little red plaques out of colorflow icing for the top layer of a wedding cake. They turned out perfect!

I attached them the night before delivery by painting a little gel to the back and stuck them to the cake. I wanted to be sure they stuck and didn't slide down because they were a little heavy.

But in the morning, I saw that something from beneath had seeped through and made dark marks on every single one! I was sooooo upset! It looked awful! icon_cry.gif (the picture doesn't due it justice- the marks were really dark) Some were a lot worse than others...But what could I do? I had to deliver. I didn't want to take them off and replace for fear of all of the frosting coming off as well. And I only had 2 extra, not 6!

So, what in the world are you supposed to attach colorflow to buttercream with????

Gosh, I don't know. It's been so long since I've fooled with color flow but just wanted to say I love the way those hearts look! Really cool!

i thought you weren't suppose to add color flow to buttercream cake until the last minute, because the "oil" can break down the color flow. sounds like some of the stuff broke down, but I would have thought red streaks instead of black. ? Black does bleed more than most colors though?

I've made some colorflow pieces on rice paper and applied directly on the BC. This keeps the BC from touching the CF and helps prevent bleeding. It also makes the piece more stable when moving.

That's the grease from the buttercream breaking down the colorflow. Colorflow pieces should be added at least the same day as delivery, not before. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do to fix it (that I know of).

In the future, attach your colorflow pieces with royal icing to slow down the grease seepage. And, if you must attach the pieces in advance, leave the wax paper or plastic wrap backing on the pieces.
