Ok it's me Briansbaker going crazy!!! I stayed up all night trying to figure out this matrix. I don't have excel so I could not use what some of you use. After all the multiplying dividing and sick of looking at numbers. I used the prices I get from wal mart. I always shop at wal mart. Can you take a few mins. and look this over and see if it is around the same as your price. Did I do this right? icon_confused.gif Is the total price about right. This is for an 11 X 15 X 2 Cake. It takes 2 cake mixes and 3 batches of buttercream (give or take a little) this is to fill and fully decorate the cake including a few BCT's.
Here I go:
cake mix
3 eggs = .18 each
1/4 c. oil = .08 per 1/4
cake mix = 1.00 per box
cake board = .66 each board
3 teas. vanilla - .25 per 3 teas. (I always add this stuff to everything)
water 1 c. = I guessed .10 ??

1 Batch of Buttercream Icing
1 c. crisco = .53 per cup
5 c. powdered sugar = .70 per 5 cups
3 teas. vanilla = .25 per 3 teas.
1/4 c. milk = .05 per 1/4

total to make this cake I came up with $9.27 for a fully decorated and filled 11 x 15 x 2
What do you think?
now do I need to multiply this by 3? that would be $27.81
Whew I am tired!!!! My brain hurts LOL icon_cry.gif

I may not be doing this right, but by my math, I come up with 9.85, then times three would be $29.55

Hi brainsbaker! It sounds like you are on the right track! I charge 30.00 for a normal decorated 11x15 sheet cake. If there are more elaborate decorations or if I have to purchase a topper...then I add on to the price. I have made some calls to local bakeries for prices...and I am actually cheaper than what they charge! icon_smile.gif

Unfortunately, I have never seen in matrix in any format other than excel but if I ever do I'll be sure to post!!

traci-do you consider your 11x15 a 1/2 sheet? Just trying to get my ducks in a row.... icon_smile.gif

Ok I did some research today. If you want to use the pricing matrix and don't have excel thats ok. If you go to microsofts website and in there downloads section, you can download an excel viewer that lets you use the matrix without having it installed on you computer. I did it today and now I can use the matrix. Thought I would let everyone know this.

dodibug...The 11x15 is what I use for a 1/2 sheet.

To jump into this discussion late, but this is something my husband and I have been going over and over. I do cakes on the side. When I make my 11 X 15 X 2 cakes, I make two of them, torte the whole dern thing (end up with four layers of cake) and fill each layer with whatever. I had charged $50 for one, but hubbie thinks I should charge upwards of $100 instead. (I have hedged and gone up to $75 for a nicely decorated one.)

How do you make your cake that would come up with the $30 base? Is it just one cake layered or two?
