icon_cry.gif I feel so bad right now. I feel so guilty. The cats are indoor/outdoor and he was in the yard and ran behind the car while we were getting in. I didn't worry about it because he always moves and I think he was walking and got hit by the back tire.

I'll admit that I wouldn't be nearly so upset if someone else had done it, I like my cats and I'll miss him but he was a cat.
My youngest was in the car with me and he knew the cat was dead because that's what we've told him can happen when you get run over but he's only 3 so he isn't really upset. The oldest is 8 and is going to be crushed when he gets home and I tell him. icon_cry.gif

icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif OK - so I get really compassionate when it comes to animals. I am so sorry you have to go through this and that your son has to go through it too. Although, I will admit that I would be absolutely devestated if it was one of my cats that got killed no matter how it happened. I am too sensitive to see any animal as just an animal. My cats are like my children.

Anyway, best luck to you and I hope your 8 year old feels better about it quickly.

I am so sorry!!

I ran over our cat last year. I wasn't worried either as she would always run away, but this time she wouldn't.

When I stopped the car, I saw gravel being "thrown", but it was her, ahem, well....anyway; to make matters worse, her kitten saw the whole thing and I had to wait several hours before my dh got home to take care of the situation. The kitten just sat beside her almost the entire time it took my dh to get home from work.

I hope your 8 yo will deal with it ok.

I feel really bad for you....

My best friend had to put her baby "Larry" of 9yrs to sleep!!! She lives on a farm and the vet came to them and she said it was the worst thing she has ever had to do. She even held him during the euthanizing (SP?) Poor thing!!

(((((HUGS))))) here's some hugs for you and your kids!!

So sorry to hear this! I know you feel guilty but it was an accident.

TheCatSite.com is a great site with many compassionate, understanding people if you need a place to talk more about this.

I'm very sorry to hear about your furry friend. Accidents happen and it is very unfortunate. Pets touch our lives so deeply.

I'm so sorry to hear about the accident, I know it makes you feel awful...I hit a squirrell once on the highway and it nearly undid me, but when it is your own pet it is a major painful situation.

I sure hope your son is able to understand and will adapt to the loss quickly.

No maam, the fantastic Ms. squirrelly is doing extremely well elsewhere!

The sad event with the squirrell on the highway was several years ago, but I still remember the sinking feeling it gave me. Janice
