Im entering a competition in Oct and need some inspiration.

The category is a "multi tiered funky, weird or wacky cake"

Now I came up with this idea. Four "cups and saucers" stacked topsy turvy, with a teapot "floating" on top pouring tea, this support will be hidden in the stream of "tea"

Ea cup will be made from a cake board, decorated to look like a saucer, and a half ball dummy cake for the cup. Im thinking of making the top of the cup tan, so look like its already filled?

The base will be decorated to look like a tray.

The problem Im having is
1. designs on the cups and teapot
2. the support dowels, how can I hide them? (black parts in my pic)
3. where to put the other dowels?
4. Do I let the 1st cup sit flat on the tray, or lifted?
5. do I assemble it completely and drive with this monster about 45 min? or try and assemble on site icon_eek.gif

any ideas will be greatly appreciated icon_biggrin.gif
BTW Im a terrible artist icon_lol.gif

well as far as hiding those dowels......why not make some little S shaped whispies coming up out of the cups like steam?? I'll bet you could cover them up with that?? Decorations on the teacups why not do some pretty brushed embroidery flowers with royal icing?? I think it makes the cups look like porcelain! Confetti cakes cake dec. book has instructions for teacup cakes and they did the brushed embroidery on the sides and it's gorgeous....maybe I can find a pic online or something??
well, I looked....couldn't find it........maybe I can scan the photo from the book later on??

okay I can't seem to find the photo but I'm cerrtain someone on here did a cake sort of like what you're planning....I remember stacked tea cups on it with the pot of tea pouring and I think they used pulled sugar for the tea.......maybe someone else will remember who made it or poss. have it saved to their photos! Good Luck, can't wait to see the cake!

not that i'm an expert. But for designs on the sides of the cups and tea pot i would head to the good will or any second hand type of store like that, for some insperation.

Things that you could use to hide the dowels. Sugar cubes, spoons, truffles, little tea cookies, flowers if you want to go that route.
