Carving A Cake On The Cake Board?

When carving a cake do you just do it on the finished cake board, or do you somehow transfer it to the finished board? Just not sure the best way to go about this....
I carve on the finished board. I don't have to move it and maybe break something off that I did not want broken. HTH.
I have done this both ways. On the safe side, it's best not to move cakes around too much. But use some wax paper to put under your cake, over the finished board so that you don't mess it up with cake, icing, etc.
