I made hamburger cupcakes for a BBQ and everything turned out great except my mustard buttercream looked the color of butter. I tried 3 batches and was not able to get it right. Please help. . . .

I don't know how to decrease the pixels to 800 wide/high to include photo in post,,but in my photos there is a copy of the hamburger cupcakes.

I used to have this problem too. I was using just the plain yellow but now I use the golden yellow and it gives you a much better mustard color. Wiltons winni the pooh golden also helps.

I used golden yellow from wilton in the second batch and it seemed to be the same solor as my cheese. Do you think I'm adding too much or not enough coloring?

I think too much if you are getting the color of the cheese. Just a tiny speck changes it from lemmoney yellow to a mustard color.

Most mustard is not yellow, yellow, but more gold. Try adding a little violet or even brown to the yellow. That will make it more gold.

My buttercream was the color of deviled egg filling. I added a little brown and it turned a nice khaki color. Threw it out.

Then I took some more of the deviled egg color BC and added a little violet. Nope. In the garbage.

Then I tried adding americolor super red. nope. garbage

Tried adding a little golden yellow. nope

by the end of this I will know how to make every color but mustard

Help please. beg beg

sounds like maybe you are using a little too much of the additions of colors sometimes it takes just a itty bity bit to change the color...I hope you find what you need....how did you make the butter color though?

Cute cupcakes!!! icon_biggrin.gif I just did these too, for a family picnic...pic is in my photos... I used Wilton lemon yellow and I believe what I did was use 3 toothpicks at one time, got a 'glob' of yeloow and put that into my Buttercream (about 1 1/4 cups of icing) I did let it sit overnight and it gave me the color I wanted... Hope this helps icon_lol.gif

have you tried egg yellow coloring by Americolor? That is what I use to make a deep yellow color. That and buttercup by CakeCraft.

how did you make the butter color though?

To answer Christi, I think I added just a touch of wiltons golden yellow to a full batch of frosting (8 cups powdered sugar, etc.)

Probably won't make hamburger cupcakes again till May. But thank-you everyone for the advice. I will return to this thread when I try to make mustard buttercream .. ..... ahhhh ......I mean mustard colored buttercream again.

Don't know if you've solved this or not yet but try regular yellow, a goodly amount, with just a smidge of orange.
