Ok, who hasn't signed yet? We're at 988 - once it gets to over 1000 I'm going to fax them over to Ogden's office and give them a little call...just to let them know I'm still here.

Again - Texas residents only please, and only sign once even if you have multiple email accounts. I'd like the petition to be as "legit" as an online petition can possibly be!!
I notified all the Representatives & Senators in my area. I am going to ask all my friends that signed the petition to do the same thing.
Today I got a letter from "Doc" Anderson (our representative. He agrees that this is a good idea to consider & will check w/other legislators to see if there is anything being introduced this season. (or at least that's what the letter from his secretary said)

AWESOME!!! Please call his office and tell him to check with Amy in Rep. Gattis' office and Stephanie in Sen. Ogden's office!!
Sen. Ogden's office has initiated talks with the Dept. of Agriculture, and Rep. Gattis is going to forward my proposal to the appropriate House Committee after the committees are assigned (hopefully this week).
Incredible! It looks like it might have a shot this time around! I think the fact that the economy is in the crapper might be our biggest selling point! Great work Kelley!
Maybe we should have a "Cake Walk" in Austin at the Capital Building the day the bill is introduced!

That is a GREAT idea! We should bring our best dummies and parade them around in front of the capital. That is sure to draw a crowd!
LET'S DO IT!!!

I'm soooo excited!!!!!!!
Off topic here...BUT!
Yellobutterfly...I love your tag line!... LOL!
lol, thanks! (It's not original, I borrowed it from a friend)
I still have not heard anything back from my reps! Looks like I've got another letter to write, including all these updates, and the petition that is now has 1052 signatures!
The Cake Walk idea is awesomeness! I'd cross Texas to be a part of that!
The Cake Walk IS an awesome idea....and the media would love it because we all know that cakes look great on TV. If we get to the point of getting an actual bill drafted and introduced, we are going to need you guys EVEN MORE. If there are public hearings, we are going to need lots and lots of people to be present and testify.
I briefed the Austin Capital Confectioners Club last night, and Jennifer Bartos, the owner of the All In One Bake Shop, has pledged her total support to this cause. She is going to put flyers in her shop and they are going to work out some kind of publicity for us to tie in with the upcoming Austin Cake Show! You may remember seeing Jennifer on TV, assisting Bronwen in several of the Food Network Challenges
Everything that's happening now is just AMAZING, I am so thankful and grateful for all the support we are getting from every part of the state!!
Well I am in SA, so Austin is just a little over an hour away (45 min is my personal best but don't even ask how fast I was going...I was 16 and dumb) count me in for any kind of cake walk or to testify if need be!
Now Kelley, I saw on another thread from cakesdivine, that even if this passes, certain subdivisions/cities still might not allow residential kitchens due to deed restrictions/HOA's and other stuff. How do we address this so that all home bakers have a chance to become legal and have their own residential kitchen? I can talk to my government professor. She's an Urban Planner for SA.
Check this out...last night I found out that one of the fathers I worked with on PTA got a new job about 8mos. ago working for Doc Anderson (our Representative)! So I emailed the dad last night & told him about receiving the letter yesterday. I asked him if it was for real, or if it was just a form letter. He said that Doc goes over every email, letter, etc. They do it as a group & he tells which office staff to reply & what to say. So he really DID see my email.
So, I told the dad about Sen. Ogden's office, I told him about the petition & all that. The Dad is going to keep me posted "from the inside".
And I would LOVE to participate in the "Cake Walk", I'm in Waco...so Austin is not that far. I just hope it doesn't end up being on a day I have clinicals.
I thought I was finished posting, but I just now got this email....
I did this morning on our morning conference call. Doc's chef of staff is checking into "Cottage Food Law" and when committees are in place (hopefully this week) they go forward on business.
Thanks
Kurt
I'm so excited!!!
Sorry to keep saying that, just everytime I check this thread it gets more AWESOME!!!
This is beyond awesome. Awesome! How many times can I say awesome?!?
jamhays - Please please call his office and have them coordinate with Rep. Gattis, who had the exact same approach (waiting for Committee assignments this week). Amy is the aide I spoke with. We need everybody on the same page, I think it will really help!
I will do that. Should I tell them about our idea for the "Cake Walk"? Or should we keep that under our hat for now?
I think maybe we'll keep that under wraps until we 1) know which committee this falls under jurisdiction of, and 2) are able to talk with them and "sell" the proposal. Then we can wow them with our supreme organization, resources, and enthusiasm.
A little while ago I forwarded this petition to all of my address book - within an hour 11 of my peeps have signed! Woo hoo - I've got like 150 in my address book, so I'm hoping more will follow course!
I have had several people email me and tell me they have signed it as well.
Thank you Kelley for ALL your hard work!
amia1024 not sure what can be done about neighborhoods already established with deed restrictions, it is the individual HOA's that have the say in what does and doesn't happen in their neighborhoods.
If this bill passes, I don't think the HD will care anything about deed restrictions or zoning issues, but then one would have to continue to fly under the radar from their local zoning board and HOA. I'd say move to an unrestricted area ...LOL! JK

Oh I already do. We're not in SA city limits. We're county. But for those IN the city, I feel that it is stupid for the HOA's to hinder free enterprise. I know state law can trump city law and certainly HOA's, so maybe a provision in the law might be needed...?
Ladies, can we get those links back up here again. I wanted to send out the link for the petition and knew I had seen it in the first few pages but some folks won't read through everything to find it again. I know I have only read the beginning of the posts and now some at the end.
Thanks Bunches,
Deb
I live in the DFW area but I'd be more than willing to come down to Austin for a Cake Walk. Keep us in the loop if it's a "go"!
Can I hear my DFW cake-iacs say "ROAD TRIP!"
