How would I go about approaching a bakery or ..... what other types of spaces are there? What should I consider when figuring out a reasonable price.

Curious too here MsCakeLady, does anyone have any experience with rental kitchen pricing and what we should look for?
TIA!

there are several threads on this, try searching for "rent commercial kitchen" and you'll prolly get lots of hits. but, in the mean time about $10-20 per hour is fairly common in pricing. many people rent from bakeries, others rent from churchs, others rent from family owned lunch/deli shops. you just have to keep looking till you find something that works for you. i called and emailed soooo many places asking to rent space and heard "no" over and over again. and then one day, i found the perfect place! an artisan bread bakery looking to offer cakes to their customers! so we worked out all the details, and now im working out of a huge commercial kitchen.

I had a hell of a time finding something.. got sick of calling churches, etc etc. Had a bit more interest from restaurants and caterers, then struck GOLD with a reception hall.

If you can find a place that caters mostly to weekend events, it makes really good sense to go there- the timing works out nicely (they do food prep on Friday), and the businesses can be really symbiotic.

I may end up making fancy breads for my "host" now icon_smile.gif

I've looked into this and the closest commercial kitchen I could get is 30 miles away, costs $10 an hour and you have to pay a $100 fee to start out, along with having $1,000,000 liability insurance... kinda a waste to me... there's no way I would come out ahead so forget it!
