I'm looking into getting a digital camera. Mostly to take photos of my cakes. I don't take very many other photos any more (since I have 3 totes full that have never been put into albums, I am so ashamed)
I was wondering which one ( moderately priced) would be the best.
Any oppinions?? Which ones do y'all have?
I have a Kodak and LOVE it. Make sure you get a good memory card with it so you don't have to worry about filling it up over holidays or something.
I'm really bad about getting prints done even of my children but I keep discs of them, they take up less space than prints.
I work with some photographers at work, and they all swear by Canons. They have a line called SDXXX (insert number here - I think they're up to 700). But the SD400 is suppossed to be a good all-around camera. We were looking at getting a new one but other things came up.
So now I have an old (huge, brick-like!) Olympus D-550 Digital camera that's about 6 years old. And it takes GREAT pics!
But ditto on the memory card - get as big of one as you are willing to pay for. Cameras come with pretty tiny ones that don't hold too many pictures unless your taking pics at the lowest quality setting.
And my advice I keep repeating - set the camera to take the highest quality pic it will take. You never know when you'll want to blow a pic up, or zoom in and crop pretty close.
Good tip czyadgrl, sometimes I forget to use the highest quality and then am disappointed in the photo, especially when it is a cake and you want to get really close.
I have a Yashica that is a few years old, very clunky, and am hoping to get a new one soon, thanks for those tips too. Janice
PS just wanted to add, be sure to take your photos asap, be sure to take a few shots so you can choose the best one, and definitely be sure you've got what you want in the photo before you let your cake leave. I speak from experience, on my purse photo I didn't realize there was so much reflection from that gold contact paper, and when I looked at them on the computer, the flash had ruined the photo and it was too late, the cake was gone.
I have an Olumpus C4000 (4 mega pixel) and love it, but it is a few years old. My husband has some 5 MP Olympus camera that is even better than mine and is smaller. I'm looking to get the Olympus Stylus 710 (7.1 MP). Very nice design and very thin--enough for me to put in my pocket! I like the Olympus's and haven't had any problems with them at all. Very good qulitly pictures.
Check out the Nikon D50, and don't take the lesser lense they'll try to sell it with. Add a lense that pops up to 200mm and you're good to go for a very reasonable price!
Heres a pic I took with mine: http://www.elysianwood.com/bfly.jpg
Definitely get a kodak, at least 3 mega pixels, the more mp's you get, the more clear your pics will be and you can also enlarge them. Around Christmas time you might be able to get a kodak easy share as well as the printer for a great price, maybe like $200 or $250 which is a great deal. I love my kodak printer, the pictures look like they were professionally printed.
