I have been getting such a nice edge with the foam roller technique that I have been "skipping" the border. Anyone else like a cake without a border?

I'm going to have to try this foam roller technique!! Read about it last night.
The only time I don't use borders is with fondant cakes; occasionally the type of cake (hats, for example) don't need it.

I've been finding lately that I have not been been doing a lot of top edge borders. Guess it may be a phase.... icon_lol.gif

Border hides flaws and imperfections and can add character to a simple cake...

I don't always do a top border. If there is a lot of decoration, it can sometimes look cluttered.

I often leave off the top border, I don't think I've ever gone without a bottom if it's a buttercream cake.

I always use borders with buttercream cakes. It hides imperfections and gives the cake a nicer look.

More and more I find myself not doing a top border espcially and doing something ultra simple for the bottom border. If I do a top border I usually try to figure out something that is out of the ordinary and rather simple.
