definitely! i have a Durabrand (walmart $30) hand/stand mixer... 2 featherweight bags a roll of disposable bags and a handful of tips. That's it. I have this teeny tiny kitchen (but I move in 2 weeks, thank goodness!)
Thankfully my best friend is fully stocked in the cake decorating department with a kitchenaid, what must be a MILLION tips and a huge kitchen. Luckily she likes helping me out!
We should take up a "needy cake decorator" collection 
I have lists of stuff I "need" and every time my husband rolls his eyes I point out that one gun would pay for a whole bunch of cake stuff.
Same here! whenever I go out my feet is taking me to the baking supplies isle of any supermarket?!!! My DH knows where to find me...
Because of money constraints I try to keep the most necessary things on hand then forego the frills of cake decorating tools.
