Hi there,
I'm designing my daughter's birthday cake for this coming Saturday (a week from today) and I'm not sure how to make the tree...
The cake is going to be two tiers (12' and 8') and a rice-Krispis house on top (similar to the Debbie Brown Snow White cake). I'm going to put the top cake to the edge of the bottom cake so that there's enough room at the front to put some animals and flowers but, in the back where the cakes match, I want to put a tree that goes all the way from the cake board to the house (that will be on top of the cake, obviously).
I was thinking to make the tree in fondant but I'm not sure how to make and position the leaves so that it doesn't look flat...
Do you know what I mean?? I read my posting and I'm not sure it's too clear but I don't know how else to describe it... ![]()
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Laura
i think i understand what you mean - the whole back of the cake will be flush from the bottom tier to the topper and you want to put a fondant tree against it? Not sure if you're doing a flat "cut out" type tree, or a more molded tree, but i think either way you could cut a lot of individual leaves, maybe in two shades of green, and layer them to get the look of movement and depth. You could also let some of the leaves dry a bit on a form so they're not all flat.
