Boy am I in a pickle!! My "fondant guy" that I order from didn't ship my order out until yesterday for my cakes starting tonight!! I had ordered enough for all 3 cakes I have coming up and some extra according to the fondant chart I found online but I've never worked with fondant before and now I have to figure out how to cover a 14" and 10" square cakes. The chart I have only gives amounts for round and up to half sheet cakes....how do I know what I need for each tier now? The fondant has to be colored royal blue so it's not like I can just add more later. PLEASE HELP icon_cry.gif

Thanks in Advance!

Wilton.com has several charts. Try there. I pretty sure there are charts listed here, on CC, too.

you could use the same calculation Wilton tells you for round cakes....
"measure the height times 2 and add the top diameter (or width)
for example if your cake is 4" high & 8" across, calculate 4x2+8=16" total

I know when I am rolling mine out I try to get it as accurate as possible, but a lot of times I am judging by my eye whether it will be big enough for my cake and I pick it up while still on the mat and lay it on top of my cake to check the size

Will your fondant be arriving on time??

When I make MMF, I have been able to cover a 14" round with just one batch, with plenty left over for a 6" round as well (and I roll my fondant out pretty thick...). I would think that one batch would cover a 14" square easily, and then another batch to cover the 10" square, and you would have some left over. Would definitely make the batches together, and color the melted marshmallows before adding the sugar.

Good luck!

I had to buy the wilton prepackaged fondant but they only had the 1 lb 8 oz boxes.....they say that one box covers and decorates a 10" round cake.....so should I use 3 boxes total then??? I got 5 hoping it would be enough. UGH!!!

You should have enough. But for the love of everything holy, pleae put some flavoring in that stuff to mask its original taste.

I would not use that wilton fondant. It is really bad, you may scare away a customer.

I use Michele Foster's Delicious Fondant that I got from here. It is amazing. I only used Satin Ice before I found this recipe. It is more elastic than mmf and takes color very well.

In your place, I would whip up a batch of my own to cover the cakes with.

Good luck
