If you add gum tex to fondant, is it still edible. My grandkids tend to eat it. If so, how much can you add and still have it taste good - of course, I am talking about MMF. TIA.

I have wondered this myself. My kids are always wanting to eat the fondant scraps, even with the gumtex. As best I can tell, from what I've read it's all edible, just not all of it is tasty. I could be wrong.

From what I've read Karaya Gum (that's what Gum-Tex is)is in no way toxic. Lots of studies have been done to check for problems and none were found. It is an FDA approved food additive.

I hope that makes you feel more comfortable in allowing your children to eat the fondant scraps.

Thanks. Do you know if it affects the taste?

i don't think it really makes a difference in taste if you add a litle. You don't need to add a lot to make it work.

but the smell of gum-tex from the jar...omg it makes me chock. every time i open it i am not so sure i want to use it.

i have read previously that some people use instead of the gumtex Fixodent Denture Adhesive Powder. it is supposed to work the same as gumtex and leave fondant a minty smell. Have't tried that myself.

Any idea about how much to add to not affect taste but still harden the fondant?
