Does anyone use a glaze on his/her cakes? I want to try one, but the majority of glazes I have seen are apricot glazes. Does this change the taste of the cake? Are there any plain glazes?

I haven't used a glaze but I heard the apricot doesn't change the flavor of the cake. I've been wanting to try a glaze, too!

You can make a plain simple syrup and add vanilla to it . Or you can add liquor to the simple syrup to get a little tinge of flavor. I usually do the liquor thing, and I have never had any complaints. I usually will put it on and then wait till it somewhat dries. The simple syrup is not as thick as the apricot glaze. I have used this and it does not change the flavor of the cake. The purpose of the glaze is to seal in the crumbs, but also it helps in keeping the cake moist.
