I want to start a cookie business and I would like to have a website, the problem is that I don't want to pay a lot of $$$ for a web design, I would like to know if any of you know about a web design program at an affordable price or even better for free! How much would be the cost for a server and domain??
Also I need to buy lots of cookie cutters, at least the most common shapes for now and I wonder is there is a wholeseller or any place that have good prices??
Thank you.
Well, you can make websites in Word if you want, but you'd be limited. You could do it though.
Another idea would be to try some programs on http://www.download.com/
I use FrontPage (that's not free) or just code it by hand. It isn't that hard.
I suppose you could do it in Yahoo's Geocities, but then you'd have to probably go in manually and delete the yahoo stuff.
Another idea would be to find a webhosting site and see if they have templates of their own. Then again you'd be limited as to what you could do, but it would be easy and fast!
Thank you, I wouldn't mind to buy a program, I just don't want to spend hundreds, I want to keep my costs low since I'm just starting.
I use to be a web designer and here is my advice. Learning to code or finding a program to just drop and click can be done, but you have to spend a fair amount of time learning the software and most importantly, developing a good design, logo, slogan, artwork and all the whiz-bangs to make your site look professional. This takes time! BTW, there is nothing that turns away customers or potential clients faster than a shabby website that looks like a 5 year old did it. You know, you have seen them. A blurred picture of a cake that has been stretched from a 5x5 pixel image to a 300x300 with a font that looks like it a clown coughed and farted while writing. Horrible!
My recommendation, find a web designer, a friend of a friend probably knows one. They like to hide out in dark places or outside of Apple stores. In this economy, there are plenty out of work or ones that have changed jobs (like me) that would be willing to do it for cheap or a trade of some sort. Who wouldn't work for a cake?
Use the money you have budgeted for software on a web designer.
Then you will have a professional logo you can use and a spiffy website to attract buyers. Good luck!
Well, I'm a web designer by training and trade. What exactly are you looking for in a website? Are you wanting to actually take orders over your site and are you wanting to take payments? Fill me in and I'll give you as much advice as I can.
PM me if you would like.

i also do some web design, however, i am still a student. I work cheap, and would love the experience. Putting GOOD design out into the world is my passion, and design for the sake of cake is certainly a wonderful thing! You can look at my work/contact me on my website if you are interested.[/i]
