The most satisfying cake I've ever done was many years ago when I was a very new decorator. It was for a very sick little boy dying of cancer. For his birthday, his grandpa wanted a special cake and the boy's favorite food was tacos. So I made a taco cake. The family told me that the boy had not smiled in weeks and not eaten in days, but did both with that cake. It broke my heart when he died a few weeks later. I still cry about it even though I never met him. His grandpa told me that my cake made him the happiest he had been in a long time. I couldn't ask for a better compliment.

This is a fantastic thread! I have seen some gorgeous work here that I had yet to see!! Man, there is some serious talent running through this site!! It's spooky how good some of these cakes are!

My most satisfying, I think, is my flannel shirt cake for 3 reasons. 1. I went through so many failed ideas on how to do it before coming up with what I did. 2. When I finally figured it all out, it turned out almost exactly as I had pictured it (you all know how rare that is... I've heard that several times in this post alone!) and 3. So many people really love it! It makes me feel like a 'real' decorator!

Hi, mamacc,

The hand was carved out from 3 layers of cake: 1-6" round and 2-6" squares. The whole cake was chocolate (used Collette's recipe). I froze the cakes then layered them with buttercream then started to carve away. I had to use my own fist as a model. My DH was away in Philly, so I couldn't use his hand. Once it was carved out, crumb coated it then put MMF on it and added luster dust to accentuate the hand's lines. This cake was one of the most interesting that I've done as of late.

JoanneK~ I hate to say this but your sister is BLIND icon_eek.gificon_eek.gificon_eek.gif All of your cakes are superb! Everyone on here has so much talent. I too have seen some cakes on this thread that I have, forgive me, missed! I try to go back as far as I can everyday in case I missed any! Apparently I did!

I love the Whinne the Pooh Character cake! How adorable! That shirt cake still blows my mind.

aupekkle~Your cake for the cake show is still my favorite. Are you going to enter again next year? I am already in the planning stages for my entry even though I said I wasn't going to enter ever again because I was so dissappointed with the judging last show!!!

That Pooh cake makes me wanna cry. Of course so many on here do. My fav one was my 1st Whimsy Topsy Turvy cake. I was sooo nervous to make it. I had just really gotten the fondant thing down after many, many failed attempts and a couple of tossing episodes. And after finishing the bottom layer I was so dissappointed, but I trudged on and in the end when I finally put the bows on and stepped back, I cried, again....yes I do it alot, it is my favorite expression of all emotions. I totally understand that "real decorator" feeling. And that was absolutely mine.

I like the one I just did for my grandson's fourth birthday. It is a 3-D Scoop from Bob the Builder. The look on his face when he saw it was worth every hour that I put into it.

I think it's neat that some of our most favorite cakes are for someone who really means alot to us....and even if we didn't know the person, we really did put alot of LOVE into the cake. Call it what you may - alot of time, alot of sweat and tears, alot of frustration - we want to do so well because we LOVE doing this and want it to turn out so well for the person who is receiving it !!

I've only done a handfull of cakes so far but I'm very happy with the one I did this past Sunday. It was a beach cake for a friend who is getting married in Mexico on the beach in a few weeks. It was really fun and I owe sugarfacy on CC alot for helping me with this !!! icon_smile.gif

This is a great thread. My favourite was my son's first birthday cake which is why I started learning to decorate. It was my try at Aines's original cake which I loved. It's the Winnie the Pooh cake in my pictures.

I have three that were very satisfying. I couldn't choose.

The first is my sisters wedding cake. It was so nerve wracking to do, but it was lovely.

The second is my first 3D carved cake. It the Mario Kart with Boo in it.

The third is my birthday cake. It was fun to make even if it was for my own birthday.

All of those pictures are in my photos.

The cake I'm most proud of was for my daughters sweet 16. I am not as half as good as you all on here but I was determined to try my best....and behold I think I did a fab job. I got so many compliments that evening but the best one was from my beautiful daugher.

My favorite cake was my grandmother's 80th birthday cake. I am sooo mad at myself because I was in such a rush that I didn't get a good pic of the completed cake. The pic below was the best I could do. It is the most work I have ever put in a cake. It is a gumpaste crown with handmade mmf pearls and homemade candy jewels. The cake is my first carved pillow cake with handmade pearl accents. Both the crown and pillow are dusted with luster dust. It looked much better in person. By the time of this picture, it had been bumped and prodded so that stuff was falling off.

My most satisfying cake but not my best for absolute sure was making the Saturn birthday cake for my husband. I had not started Course II and had very little confidence in decorating.....I mixed several colours in my icing bag and piped out those stars to cover Saturn..
My husband went crazy over the cake and I was proud as anything that I could "do" it...I think that is the cake that gave me confidence that I could go on..don't know why but it's the one.
Only one comment on it on CC but must have been my husband's reaction to it...telling me that the ball pan with stars on it looked just like Saturn....one proud moment!!

I am applauding you all for all your beautiful cakes. My fav. thus far is my most recent. It is fall themed and has put me in the mood for the holidays. It was made for my sister's works cake walk. The proceeds from all the cakes go to charity.
