So I kept seeing these posts all over for cake balls and a few weekends ago I deided to try them, they were outstanding! I didn't want to eat them all myself so I decided to take some for my brother to try who is in a program for guys battling additions, mostly drug and alcohol. Anyway, he was floored! Absolutely loved them and asked if I could make a bunch and bring them for family day. Not let me tell you, there are about 50 guys in this program so I was making cake balls all day on Saturday getting ready for Sunday afternoon. Not knowing how big of a hit they were going to be I made about 150 of them. All different flavors. I just started thorwing anything in them, as long as it sounded good! I got there yesterday (Sunday) and placed the cake balls along with a cake I had done for them on the desert table, no sooner did the guys all start coming out, the cake balls were GONE!!!!!!!!!!! They devoured them! Come to find out my brother has been telling these guys about these cake balls for about 2 weeks so they were all waiting for them! What a hit they were. I think they have found a new addiction! Better to be addcited the cake balls then drugs or alcohol I guess!

Ok well I just thought I'd share my story. If you haven't tried these cake balls yet please do! You will not regret it...

I haven't been making enough cake to have enough leftovers for cake balls (I guess it would help if DH and myself stopped eating the leveling scraps!), but I cannot wait to try them soon.

Man, I really should try these cake balls I've been hearing so much about! I've been putting it off, because I don't want to eat them all! I recently lost some weight, and since getting back into cake decorating a few months ago, I've put a few pounds back on! icon_eek.gif

What different flavors did you make?? I bet all the guys were thrilled to have such a wonderful treat!!

My only experience with cake balls was a few years ago around Christmas time. I found a recipe online at one of my favorite recipe sites and decided to make them for a Christmas party. They turned out awful!!! I ended up taking Chex party mix...which they had plenty of...what's your secret everyone? I wanted them to be great, but they were less than stellar. I'm willing to give it another try with some encouragement! icon_biggrin.gif

OMG You have to try them again!!!!! The ones that my bro liked the best were yellow cake with choc/caramel creamer and peanutbutter/choc choc chips dipped in choc. I also did some with hazelnut creamer and choc chips and walnuts, I did some with melted caramel. I tried all different kinds! I saw in the grocery store the other day a mint creamer. I thought that might be good with a chocolate cake icon_eek.gificon_eek.gif Good luck, don't give up!

Hi Jenn1978,

Did you use the liquid creamer or powder? Did you mix any buttercream in with the cake balls? I tried making these once, wasn't overly impressed, but for some reason I feel compelled to keep trying!!! Those darn cake balls!!!! icon_rolleyes.gif

I just did that. I'd been reading so much about cake balls I *had* to make them. I brought them to my sisters for fight night, even though we stuffed ourselves with all sorts of food everyone managed to inhale the cake balls.

Mockaes, I used the liquid creamer. I didn't use any buttercream. I just poured a little liquid in at a time until the cake stuck together and formed a ball. I've read on here about people using all kinds of different liquids for the binder, try anything! If it sounds good try it icon_smile.gif good luck, don't quit!

Here is the link to the cake ball recipie. It gives you the basics icon_smile.gif

Basically you can just add any kind of mixture you would want. If you do a search through the forums on cake balls you will see some the different things people have used. The possibilites are endless! Good luck with them but beware they are addictive! You may need to buy a new wardrobe icon_surprised.gif
