I want to do a cake that looks like a tombstone, but I want it to stand up. Like a 3D cake. Any ideas how I can accomplish this?

Also does anyone have any cute sayings for it....It's for a 30th birthday party for a man and it also has a Halloween theme to it?

Thanks
Michelle

How about making cake in loaf pans and stack a couple of them and then make a round cake and cut it in half and stack the two halfs side by side on top of the loaf pan cakes to make the rounded top I would stick a couple dowels down through them to make sure they don't topple.......also.....use a dense sturdy cake. As for the saying.....how about "here lies (person's name)'s 20's" Like a play on the fact that his 20's are gone!

Is anyone still up out there? I'm kinda nervous about doing this cake. Do you think it would be sturdier if I cover it in fondant or should I just cover it in buttercream. I baked a 9x13 and I'm going to cut it into three parts and then put an 8 in cake cut in half on top of that. Will that work? Am I crazy for trying to get this to stand up?

Please help!

You can use Rice Krispie Treats to create the tombstone then cover it with fondant.

Possible fun sayings:

I See Dead People

There is still no cure for the common birthday

How old you may wonder. _______ is almost 6 feet under!

Hi ho hi ho...over the hill ______ goes! Happy Birthday!

________, here lies your youth! Happy 30th Birthday!

Remember tombstones come in different shapes so you can be as creative as you want to be. How big is your cake? I would do a sheet cake and use a round for the tombstone part. Cut the round in half. Stack together than put the flat part on top of the sheet cake and have the rounded part on top. Use some dowls to support. LoL & hope this makes sense to you.
