I am doing my granddaughter end of season socccer cake and there colors are light blue and navy blue. I bought the Americolor Navy Blue and I can't get it anywhere near Navy Blue it is a light blue almost like a Marine Blue.. I did it last night in the hopes that it would darken (did not). What am I doing wrong.. I had hoped to make the soccer ball white and navy and then use a lighter blue for the border and team and girl's names. Cake must be completed and delivered by 5:00 p.m. today. Thanks in Advance for all your help.

I used the Americolor navy blue last week for the first time, and noticed that it takes quite a bit to get a darker blue shade. It makes a fantastic baby blue, and seems to take a lot of coloring to get past a primary blue that isn't dark enough to be called navy.

I think you can add a little black to make it a darker navy.

I've always used the Super Navy Blue paste color from CK Products, which my local decorating shop carries. Need to use plenty of it, and sometimes you can add just a little bit of black to help. Sorry, I don't have any experience with the Americolor brand, but I hope this helps you out.

You can always add Orange to blue to make it a darker blue. It is an opposite on the color wheel, so it darkens it up to a nice color.

I've done this navy blue several times before, and it takes a lot! icon_surprised.gif However, it does dry out to a nice navy blue...look at my pictures for proof...camo cake in blues and the one with the cheerleader pom-poms on top are proof. The only thing I found was the more I used, the thinner my icing got...so I said next time, I would start with thick consistency icing first, and work down to medium consistency. Hope this helps.
