Help!!!! Baking 2 Cakes At Once??

OH NO! It only takes mine 38 minutes at 350 degrees. Have you a oven thermometer? It sounds like your oven isn't getting to the right temp.
No oven thermometor... I think I may have added to much liquid to my extender... Maybe that's why!? I thought that baking 2 at the same time would mean I would have to bake for longer? No?!
GAH!!! ![]()
Thought I'd be able to get a head start on these stupid cakes but looks like I'll be rebaking!
I bake 2 -10", 2 -8", and 2-6" rounds in my oven all at once. I bake at 340 for about 50 minutes sometimes longer. Give it time...once they start to set up it won't take much longer! ![]()
I just baked a cake on the weekend, a cupcake cake (wilton pan). It took forever to be done. I added a wee bit more liquid to the cake to make it really moist ... I think it took about 45-50 minutes for one cake. I'm sure your cakes will be fine. Mine wasn't dried out after being in the oven that long. In fact ... baked it on Saturday, and finished it last night ... still extremely moist!
For some reason I've always been scared to bake more than one cake at a time!! YIKES!! I had a 10" to bake as well but I left that one out to bake after!
The big issue is that I had to bake and run! I left the cakes in the oven for DH to take out because I had to go back to work. He said they finally baked, but they fell a bit... GRRRR!
I think it's the extra liquid that I added accidentally! Ah well! When I get home I'll probably rebake, but do them all at the same time!!
My oven should be the right temp seeing as it's brand new!! (well, under 2 years old!)
PHEW!! I'm glad to hear some of you have added liquid and it turned out fine! I guess I'll just have to wait and see when I get home! Thanks again! You guys are amazing!

What size is your oven???

It's just a regular Maytag kitchen range! My new Blodgett should be in and ready to go in about a week...I'm so excited!!!!
This may sound like a dumb question but do you use both wire racks in your home oven to bake all those pans on? Do you move the racks on the higher rungs? Pam from Bama
Doesn't sound like a dumb question at all! I put one rack just below the middle of the oven and then skip a rack slot and put the second one. On the lower rack I put the 10" cake on the left, the 8" cake in the back on the right and the 6" cake towards the front on the right...on the upper rack I put the 10" cake on the right and the smaller ones on the left. I use Magic Line pans and they come out perfect every time. I was really skeptical the first time I did it and thought for sure I'd end up rebaking but it worked out perfectly! Now I do usually take the 6"s out first and then 5 or so minutes later the 8"s are done and then 5-7 mins later the 10"s but it's still MUCH faster than baking 2 at a time...saves me hours in a baking day! ![]()
