I am attempting my first tiara using royal icing. It looks o.k. resting on the jar I have the pattern taped to....so far. I am planning on three layers of royal icing and drying it for 24 hours. Once I remove it from the jar, can I paint it with luster dust? Will a mixture of vodka with silver dust paint over the royal icing without "melting" the icing? When I place the tiara on the cake, will the buttercream "melt" the royal icing?

thanks!

Yes, you can paint the tiara with luster dust and vodka. In fact, don't be afraid to really load up your brush with lots of wet luster dust so you can get into the nooks and crannies. The vodka evaporates before it has a chance to break down the royal.

No, your tiara will not melt on buttercream icing. I actually glue my tiaras to the cake with buttercream.

Diane was right....mix your luster dust with vodka (a little at a time) or lemon extract. Paint it all over. The tiara should rest onto the buttercream.
good luck and remember to post pictures!!
