Gum Paste Vs. Royal Icing--Which Is Easier To Decorate With?

I'm planning on buying pre-made decorations to use on a cake I'm going to bake for my daughter's birthday. I'm going to frost the cake in buttercream and attach the decorations to the sides of the cake. Would gum paste or royal icing decorations be better to use? What are the pros and cons of each? What should I use to adhere the decorations to the cake?
I agree with Feefs, it's going to depend on the decorations you want to use since there are things that just can't be made from royal icing.
To attach you would use a little dab of buttercream on the back of the decoration, that's for both. I don't think one is going to be harder than the other for you to put on or anything if you aren't making them.
I love gumpaste but it doesn't taste good at all to me. Royal decorations are hard too but they taste better, they also will soften a little from absorbing some of the grease from the cake. That's the only real difference in dealing with them if you're not making them yourself.
Thanks for the replies. I plan on using small (less than 1/2") pre-made flowers.
