Can I Freeze A Decorated Cake?

I'm a newbie to cake decorating and need to know if you can feeze a decorated cake? I'll be going to my daughters this weekend and she wants me to help make a cake that she can take to bible study group the next Thursday.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Make sure it is covered, because I have had problems with cakes sweating when they thaw. When they are covered, I don't have that problem. Use a cake box covered with plastic wrap, or a cake dome.

Could it go in the freezer in a wilton plastic cake carrier?

Put the cake in a box, and then wrap the box. When you are ready for the cake to thaw, put it in the refrigerater to thaw slow. Leave it wrapped well so it does not absorb any freezer or frig odors.

As long as it fits in your freezer, sure. Good tip on the slow thaw, too. My refrigerated ones usually don't sweat unless it is really humid, but I live in AZ, so that is rare icon_lol.gif

Yes!

I'm new as well, and have been taking a class at my community center.

Here's what I do.

I bake my cake the day before my class and freeze it. The next morning I take it out to do my crumb coat and frosting. By the time I get to class it is thawed.

After class, I immediately put it back in the freezer to use for the weekend. My class is on Tuesdays. I do not cover it at all. I just take it out on Sat morning or early afternoon and put it in the refrigerator, then around 9 or 10 am on Sunday I take it out.

I have never had a problem. I live in AZ too, and have yet to have a cake sweat, however, I just started doing this 4 weeks ago, so it hasn't been that hot.

Hi. I am jumping in here because I am freezing cakes as well and am tying to learn about it. I just made some cakes today. I say some because the first ones brike up when I moved them. I made another and let it cool more before I moved it. I did not frost them. I put them in the freezer unfrosted. I am just wondering if I will be acle to level them when I let them thaw? Or before I let them thaw? I am in NV so the weather is very close to AZ weather.

I did this a few months ago when I was in a pinch for a cake for a friend and I was going on vacation. I decorated it will everything I needed to do except the RI accents. I put it in the box I was going to deliver it in then wrapped that well in plastic wrap. It got frozen until about 1-2 days before delivery (another friend did this for me) and then put in the fridge to thaw still completely wrapped. After that, she unwrapped it to finish decorating and said it hadn't bled at all and looked great.

Thanks everybody for your replies. We're going to make and decorate the cake this weekend and put it in her Wilton cake carrier and in to the freezer till next Wednesday. Then she can take it out and keep in her fridge till Thursday morning when she needs it.

She is going to transport it in the carrier, but has a box the lady can put any leftovers in to take home. My daughter thought transporting in the carrier would be easiest for her as she'll have her 3 yr old and 3 month old with her.
