I have a request for a small castle or dragon cake... they don't want it to really feed more than 12 or so people... it could be a bit bigger than that but I quoted them a price range of $50-$75 so let's not make this too difficult for me! What could I do?

i made this cake for my bf. before you laugh and call it a smurf castle.... i had PLANNED on having the moat surround the castle and having a tower or 2 next to the main castle part, and i made a fondant purple dragon that was too big to fit on my little cake. also i have very little experience with fondant, lol. but maybe this will get your idea juices flowing icon_biggrin.gif

this was a 6in on top of an 8in, both single layer

Thanks everyone! My sister in law just asked me to do her daughter's first birthday cake so i'm going to try to talk her into a castle cake (I really want to order the Wilton set) but it'll be the same weekend as the dragon so there's no way I could use it for both so I guess I'll have to do the dragon. All your cakes are beautiful though!

I used the big wilton egg pan for the body and the head and the mini egg pan for the back legs I just put two together for the thigh part and then the head, front legs, and paws on the back legs were made out of rice krispie treats...only because we didn't need that much cake! The tail was just some cake scraps from another cake (I needed the pirate ship cake for the same party and there were only like 10 of us lol).......we could've gotten a good 10-12 servings out of the body of the dragon alone...if you do the head and everything out of cake you'll get even more! Oh and the scales was just a tear drop shaped cutter layered on.....super simple, but a little time consuming.

I'm a newbie. The cakes in this post are beautiful! I would love to see a castle cake AND a dragon icon_smile.gif Maybe a good dragon (think Norbert or Eragon) wrapped around the castle like a moat protecting it? Or since this isn't too be a huge cake, maybe you could incorporate the dragon so just the head and/or tail come out of the moat or something? Castle, dragon or both - sounds awesome.
